Richmond, Kentucky, April 7, 2009 – Specialized
Technical Services, Inc. (TEAMsTs) announced the recent deployment of
the 475,000th electric smart meter on the Alabama Power portion of the
Southern Company Smart Meter deployment initiative. Smart Meters
integrate advanced metering, communications and other innovative
technologies to provide superior customer service at reduced operating
costs. TEAMsTs is responsible for the entire Alabama Power portion of
the project.
TEAMsTs is using its proprietary work order
management system for the deployment of the Smart Meters on the Alabama
Power portion of the Southern Company system. This work order management
system provides an almost seamless transmission of metering data of the
work completed by the deployment technician to Alabama Power’s consumer
billing database. In addition to the normal meter data, the TEAMsTs
handheld computer system “talks” to the Sensus meter and validates the
meter serial number, the radio ID number and inputs the GPS coordinates
and completes a range of tests that ensures that the meter is operating
correctly and to specifications.
